Abstract

Abstract

The transition towards sustainable tourism in emerging destinations requires an extensive understanding of how sustainable practices are implemented. This paper examines how combining renewable energy sources and efficiency actions can support the long-term expansion of micro-scale ecological accommodations. Methodologically, this paper adopts a hybrid Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) approach in order to prioritize sustainable interventions according to five criteria and seven sustainable interventions identified from management guideline data provided by Bab Zouina ecolodge in Morocco’s Ourika Valley. AHP is used to determine the relative importance of the criteria, while TOPSIS ranks the interventions according to their calculated performance. The results demonstrate how low-complexity and high-impact alternatives such as LED lighting replacement and covered cooking pots outperform high-cost solutions in the emerging context. This study demonstrate the relevance of nmulticrieria decision making frameworks in order to translate enviromental managemnet data into actionable invetsemnet protorties in microscale entities in emerging tourism destinations.
