Abstract

The interaction of the port with the supply chain has been the subject of several academic researches that concern port management. In the context of globalization, and in an increasingly competitive world, the role of the port is very decisive in international trade, since more than 80% of goods traded worldwide, pass by sea. However, to be efficient and competitive ports must give more importance to the logistics function. If the port is integrated into the supply chain, it will be competitive and will easily play its role vis-à-vis these customers. This article attempts to study and discuss the interactions of the port with the supply chain. We first analyze the evolution of ports, then we will see the protagonists of port integration, finally the advantages of port integration within the port supply chain. This work is of great theoretical interest since it provides insights into the port’s relationship with the supply chain.
