Tourism is a massive and significant industry in the world of travel and tourism. It is the world's largest industry in terms of total revenue, occupying the position of the fourth-largest sector in terms of employment, and the third-largest source of exports in the world. The tourism sector can play a huge role in any country's economy and development. However, as with many industries and other sectors of the economy, it can be very risky and controversial as well, and this often leads to misunderstandings and confusion regarding the proper role and importance of the tourism industry. It is important to understand the proper role of tourism as it plays in the economy of a country so that we can be better able to utilize its potential effectively and positively. But what exactly is tourism? It is simply the act of traveling outside of one's normal surroundings to have fun, relax, or take in the sights and sounds of a new location. It can take many forms such as visiting a new country, city, state, or even a different continent if you're feeling adventurous!
