Innovation ouverte, capacité d’absorption et performance des PME : Proposition d’un modèle conceptuel

Face à l’intensification des pressions concurrentielles et à l’accélération des mutations technologiques, l’innovation ouverte (IO) s’impose comme une stratégie incontournable pour les petites et moyennes entreprises (PME), souvent confrontées à des contraintes financières et structurelles. Si la relation entre l’IO et la performance suscite un intérêt croissant, les mécanismes qui la sous-tendent demeurent encore insuffisamment explorés dans ce contexte spécifique. Cet article propose un modèle conceptuel mobilisant deux composantes de la capacité d’absorption : la dimension potentielle (acquisition et assimilation de connaissances externes) et la dimension réalisée (transformation et exploitation de ces connaissances). Ces dimensions sont envisagées selon deux rôles distincts, médiateur et modérateur, dans la relation entre les pratiques d’IO et la performance des PME. En s’appuyant sur le paradigme de l’IO et sur les résultats empiriques existants, quatre hypothèses sont formulées, ouvrant la voie à une validation empirique ultérieure.

Abstract

As competitive pressures intensify and technological changes accelerate, open innovation (OI) has become an essential strategy for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which face structural resource constraints. While the relationship between OI and performance has attracted growing scholarly interest, the underlying mechanisms remain insufficiently explored in this specific context. This article proposes a conceptual model mobilizing two components of absorptive capacity, the potential dimension (acquisition and assimilation of external knowledge) and the realized dimension (transformation and exploitation of that knowledge) ,in a two distinct roles ,mediator and moderator , in the relationship between OI practices and SME performance. Drawing on the OI paradigm and existing empirical findings, four research hypotheses are formulated, paving the way for future empirical validation.
