Mots-clés : Pass-through, taux de change, inflation, Modèle à Correction d’Erreur Vectoriel (VECM), RDC

ABSTRACT

This study examines the effect of exchange rate depreciation on inflation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo over the period 1995-2025. In a context characterized by pervasive dollarization and a high degree of external dependence, this research adopts a quantitative approach based on time-series analysis. The short-run and long-run relationships are estimated using a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM), after testing for the stationarity of the series and the existence of a cointegration relationship. The sample consists of annual macroeconomic data covering the period 1995-2025. The variables analyzed include the Consumer Price Index (CPI), the exchange rate, broad money, Gross Domestic Product, trade openness, and Foreign Direct Investment.

The empirical findings reveal the existence of long-term inflation persistence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as the country's strong dependence on imports. The results highlight an exchange rate pass-through mechanism deeply embedded in the country's economic structure and reinforced by the inflationary expectations of economic agents. Consequently, each depreciation of the Congolese franc is transmitted almost mechanically into a sustained increase in domestic prices. Furthermore, the findings suggest that the monetary authorities have limited control over the money supply. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, broad money (M2) appears to be largely endogenous, with 19.00% of its long-run variability explained by exchange rate fluctuations and 15.99% by inflows of Foreign Direct Investment. Similarly, real economic growth remains constrained, with price instability accounting for nearly 20% of its long-run fluctuations.

In conclusion, this study confirms the existence of a positive and statistically significant exchange rate pass-through to domestic prices, together with the persistence of inflationary effects in both the short and long run in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The findings underscore the need to strengthen exchange rate stability, enhance the credibility of monetary policy, and promote domestic production in order to reduce import dependence and mitigate externally induced inflationary pressures.

Keywords: Pass-Through, Exchange Rate Inflation, Exchange Rate, VECM, Monetary Policy, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Abstract

In a global environment marked by technological acceleration and digital transformation, economic intelligence (EI) has emerged as a strategic resource capable of catalyzing firms’ technological innovation, particularly in emerging economies. This article aims to identify the mechanisms through which EI contributes to technological innovation and to draw their implications for strategic management and strategic marketing, with a contextualization applied to Morocco.

Methodologically, the study relies on a systematic literature review conducted according to the PRISMA 2020 protocol (Page et al., 2021), within a moderate positivist epistemological position and an abductive mode of reasoning.

Abstract

This article analyzes the trajectory of the Congolese financial system from 1960 to 2026 and assesses its capacity to serve as a lever for socio-economic development in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The methodological approach is qualitative, documentary, historical, and analytical. It is based on a diachronic and comparative analysis of secondary data concerning the evolution of financial institutions, money, credit, financial inclusion, and the regulatory framework. The sample, understood here as a documentary corpus, consists of publications and statistics from the Central Bank of the Congo, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank, supplemented by the main legal and regulatory texts governing the Congolese financial sector during the period under review. The findings highlight progress in macroeconomic stability, banking regulation, electronic money, digital financial services, and banking-sector consolidation. However, they also reveal persistent high dollarization, limited financial depth, restricted access to productive credit, geographical concentration of financial services, and insufficient long-term financing. The main conclusion is that the Congolese financial system can become a genuine driver of structural transformation only through a coordinated strategy aimed at sustainably restoring confidence in the Congolese franc, deepening financial markets, financing small and medium-sized enterprises and the agricultural and industrial sectors, expanding financial inclusion and digitalization, and strengthening financial governance and supervision.

Keywords: financial system, socio-economic development, banks, credit, financial inclusion, dollarization, monetary policy, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

BITUMBILA BITUMBILA Evariste (c) Tous droits réservés African Scientific Journal 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-07-23 2026-07-23 3 37 541 541 10.5281/zenodo.21511554 When Employer Branding Alone Isn't Enough: The Mediating Power of Candidate Satisfaction in Talent Attraction https://africanscientificjournal.com/index.php/AfricanScientificJournal/article/view/2013
Abstract

Purpose. In a context shaped by globalization, accelerated digital transformation, and an intensifying war for talent, employer branding has emerged as a strategic lever for organizations seeking to attract scarce and valuable competencies. While the direct effects of employer branding on organizational attractiveness are well documented, the intermediary and contextual mechanisms through which this influence unfolds remain insufficiently understood, particularly within specific sectoral and national settings such as the Moroccan call center industry. This article addresses this gap through a sequential mixed-methods design, combining an exploratory qualitative study with a confirmatory quantitative study.

Design/methodology/approach. The study was conducted at the Concentrix call center in Agadir, Morocco, a sector characterized by high workforce turnover and intense competition for talent, through a sequential mixed-methods design combining an exploratory qualitative study with a confirmatory quantitative study, the former informing the construction of the latter. Sample. The exploratory phase relied on thirteen semi-structured interviews conducted with recently hired employees, analyzed through computer-assisted thematic analysis using NVivo 11, combining within-case and cross-case coding. The confirmatory phase relied on a structured questionnaire administered, following an exhaustive sampling strategy, to employees and candidates of the same organization, analyzed through Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), entirely implemented within the R statistical environment using the psych, REdaS and seminr packages.

Findings. The qualitative phase identified three structuring themes, employer branding (reputation, organizational culture, compensation, communication), candidate satisfaction (clarity of information, recruitment process experience, feedback interactivity, expectation matching), and talent attraction (value compatibility, development opportunities, value proposition, organizational engagement), together with a transversal contextual theme, labor market conditions, acting as a moderating factor. The quantitative phase statistically confirmed these qualitative insights: the direct effect of employer branding on talent attraction proved weak and non-significant (β = 0.018; t = 1.24; p = 0.216), whereas the indirect effect mediated by candidate satisfaction was robust and highly significant (employer branding, satisfaction: β = 0.052; t = 4.37; p < 0.001; satisfaction, attraction: β = 0.061; t = 5.12; p < 0.001), raising the explained variance from R² = 58% to R² = 72%. The integration of control variables and the labor market moderator raised the model's explanatory power to R² = 94%, with all interaction coefficients between labor market conditions and satisfaction dimensions proving significant (coefficients ranging from 0.187 to 0.447; p < 0.05).

Conclusion. Taken together, these results show that employer branding does not attract talent directly: its influence operates almost entirely through the satisfaction candidates experience during the recruitment process, a mediating mechanism whose strength is itself shaped by prevailing labor market conditions. For organizations, and for call centers in particular, this implies that investing in the coherence and quality of the candidate experience yields more than communication effort alone, and that retention and attraction strategies should be adjusted to the state of the labor market.

Originality/value. This research offers one of the few empirical investigations of employer branding grounded in the Moroccan call center sector, an industry that remains scarcely represented in the international literature on this topic. Methodologically, it illustrates a complete sequential mixed-methods protocol, from inductive thematic analysis to confirmatory PLS-SEM modeling entirely conducted in the open-source R environment, offering a transparent and reproducible alternative to proprietary structural modeling software. Theoretically, it provides robust empirical support for the full mediating role of candidate satisfaction and for the moderating role of labor market conditions in the employer branding–talent attraction relationship.

Keywords: employer branding; talent attraction; candidate satisfaction; labor market conditions; mixed methods; thematic analysis; PLS-SEM; R software; call centers; Morocco.

Abstract

In a labor market characterized by an intensifying war for talent, Generation Z is reshaping the rules of employer attractiveness. Drawing on twenty-four semi-structured interviews with Generation Z professionals and grounded in Signaling Theory and Psychological Contract Theory, the study uncovers a four-stage sequential process, observation, interpretation, credibility construction, and behavioral intentions, in which the consistency between organizational promises and actual HR practices emerges as the key determinant of employer brand credibility.

Abstract

The banking sector plays a fundamental role in financing economic activity and promoting sustainable economic growth. In a context characterized by regulatory reforms, digital transformation, and profound changes in the financial environment, assessing bank productivity has become essential for evaluating the performance of financial institutions. This study investigates the evolution of total factor productivity (TFP) of the eight largest Moroccan commercial banks over the period 2006–2025 using the Malmquist Productivity Index estimated through an output-oriented Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) under variable returns to scale. Banks are modeled as financial intermediaries employing three inputs (customer deposits, net fixed assets, and personnel expenses) to produce two outputs (customer loans and other earning assets). The findings reveal an average TFP growth of 1.7% over the study period (Malmquist index = 1.017). This improvement is primarily driven by technological progress, whereas changes in technical efficiency remain relatively limited. The analysis also highlights significant differences across years and banks, reflecting the effects of technological investment, digitalization, and organizational transformation. By providing a dynamic assessment spanning two decades, this study contributes to the empirical literature on banking productivity in Morocco and offers valuable insights for bank managers, regulators, and public policymakers seeking to strengthen the competitiveness, efficiency, and resilience of the Moroccan banking sector.

Keywords : Total factor productivity ; Malmquist productivity index ; Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) ; banking efficiency ; technological change ; Moroccan commercial banks.

Abstract

This study examines the effects of aggregate and disaggregated infrastructure development indices on economic performance in five Maghreb countries (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia) over the period 2005-2022. Drawing on a three-estimator strategy combining Fixed Effects (FE), the Pooled Mean Group (PMG) estimator of Pesaran, Shin and Smith (1999), and Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares (DOLS), the study accounts for cross-sectional dependence and mixed integration characterizing the panel. Results reveal that transport and electricity infrastructures exert a positive and robust effect on GDP per capita, while ICT and water/sanitation infrastructures produce no significant direct effect on growth in the short and medium term. Negative and significant error correction terms confirm the existence of long-run relationships between infrastructure development and economic performance across the region. In a context where employability increasingly depends on communication, teamwork, adaptability, problem-solving, and leadership, social media platforms have become important spaces for accessing professional content, career advice, peer experiences, and learning resources outside formal education. Based on a positivist perspective and a hypothetico-deductive approach, the study uses a quantitative survey to test the effects of three dimensions of social media as an informal learning environment: exposure to educational content, accessibility of learning resources, and online interaction. Data were analyzed using SmartPLS. The results confirm the reliability and validity of the measurement model and show that the three dimensions positively influence informal soft skills learning among young graduates. Exposure to educational content has the strongest effect, followed by accessibility of learning resources and online interaction. The study contributes to the literature by linking social media-based informal learning with soft skills development and highlights the practical value of digital platforms for graduate employability.

Keywords: social media; informal learning; soft skills; young graduates; employability; SmartPLS.

Thus, composting is promoted in market gardening production. This study aims to analyze the determinants of self-consumption of compost from household organic waste in market gardening production in South Borgou, Benin. On a sample of 288 market garden producers selected randomly, a logit regression model was used to analyze the variables that influence this adoption. The results show that factors such as: gender, having agriculture as a main activity, monthly income, having an organic waste management system, the presence of leaves, branches, and other garden waste as the types of organic waste produced in the household, and access to information or local programs that encourage organic waste management (recycling, composting, etc.) significantly influence the integration of compost from household organic waste into one's own vegetable production. Interventions in vegetable production can use these results to guide their policies.

Keywords: agriculture, compost, chemicals, Benin

Abstract

Sports diplomacy has become an increasingly important component of states' international strategies due to its capacity to enhance international influence, attractiveness, and cooperation. In this context, Morocco has gradually established itself as a major actor in sports diplomacy in Africa through the organization of major international sporting events, the modernization of sports infrastructure, and the strengthening of partnerships with African countries. However, the existing literature primarily focuses on soft power, public diplomacy, and sport mega-events, while paying limited attention to the governance mechanisms that shape the effectiveness and long-term sustainability of sports diplomacy policies.

This article seeks to address this gap by proposing an integrated governance model for sports diplomacy, applied to the Moroccan case in the perspective of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The study is based on a critical review of the international scientific literature, complemented by a documentary analysis of Moroccan public policies, institutional reports, and key academic contributions on sports diplomacy, territorial development, and public governance.

The findings suggest that the effectiveness of sports diplomacy depends on the articulation of six interrelated dimensions: institutional governance, public diplomacy, African cooperation, territorial development, economic diplomacy, and sustainable legacy. Building on this framework, the article develops an original conceptual model designed to strengthen the strategic coherence of national sports policies and support Morocco's long-term ambitions associated with the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Beyond the Moroccan case, the proposed framework provides an analytical tool that may be applied to the study of sports diplomacy strategies implemented by other emerging and African countries seeking to enhance their international influence through sport.

Keywords : Sports diplomacy; Governance, Soft power, Territorial development, African cooperation, Morocco.

Abstract

Digital transformation has become a strategic driver for modernizing cultural heritage management by providing innovative solutions for the documentation, conservation, enhancement, and governance of heritage assets. This paper examines the contribution of digital transformation to cultural heritage management by analysing the main digital tools and technologies currently employed, as well as the opportunities and challenges associated with their implementation. The study is based on a comprehensive literature review of scientific publications, institutional reports, and international reference documents addressing digital transformation and cultural heritage management. The findings highlight that heritage databases, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Historic Building Information Modelling (HBIM), three-dimensional digitization, virtual reality, digital platforms, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Digital Twins significantly improve heritage documentation, conservation, monitoring, and dissemination. These technologies also support more integrated governance, strengthen collaboration among stakeholders, and promote data-driven decision-making. However, their implementation remains constrained by technical, financial, legal, and organizational challenges, including system interoperability, funding limitations, digital skills development, and regulatory adaptation. The paper also emphasizes that recent national initiatives in Morocco, particularly the recommendations of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) and the Digital Morocco 2030 strategy, provide favorable conditions for accelerating digital transformation in the cultural heritage sector. Ultimately, digital transformation represents a key opportunity to develop a more intelligent, collaborative, and sustainable approach to cultural heritage management.

Keywords: Digital Transformation; Cultural Heritage Management; Cultural Heritage; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); Historic Building Information Modelling (HBIM); Artificial Intelligence; Digital Twins; Smart Heritage.

Abstract

Agroecological practices now offer solutions to mitigate the increasing use of chemical inputs on farms, particularly on cotton farms, in Africa and Benin. This research aims to characterise cotton farms and identify the factors that define them. Using a sample of 360 cotton farmers, the TAPE tool was employed for this characterisation, and a multinomial logit regression was also used to identify the factors influencing this characteristic. Furthermore, a Student’s t-test was carried out comparing farmers who had benefited from an agroecological intervention with those who had not, for each of the ten indicators. The results of the analyses showed that 24.66 per cent of the farms surveyed practise a system exhibiting agroecological diversity, compared with only 0.55 per cent practising an advanced system in terms of agroecological diversity. Regarding synergy, only 0.27% of respondents implemented the advanced system in terms of agroecological synergy, compared with 77.53% who remained within the conventional synergy system. About the Student’s t-test, the results indicate no significant difference between the two groups. As for the multinomial logit regression, the results showed that variables such as level of education, informal education, contact with extension services, the crop grown, and the number of animals are the factors that influence the level of farm integration. Agricultural policies could well draw on these results to guide the promotion of agroecological practices in the cotton-producing region.

Keywords: Characteristic; Determinant; Agroecological Farm; Cotton

Abstract

This paper investigates the complexity of digital projects carried out by the Moroccan public sector and proposes a diagnostic tool tailored to this context. The research adopts an interpretivist approach, drawing primarily on an abductive logic, and relies on a mixed-methods design, the study combines (i) a qualitative phase a multi-criteria assessment matrix adapted from the Construction Industry Institute applied to seven ministerial projects, together with ten semi-structured interviews with public project managers and (ii) a quantitative phase relying on a survey of 41 professionals, analysed through correlation analyses. Findings show that perceived complexity is associated neither with project cost, nor duration, nor the number of stakeholders, nor the technological dimension of projects. It is, however, significantly related to the timing of changes occurring during the project (R² = 0.164; p = 0.0095) and, to a lesser extent, to the clarity of the change management process (p = 0.0502), requirements volatility and prior team cohesion. Complexity therefore appears to be primarily organisational and adaptive rather than structural or technical. On this basis, the paper proposes a weighted ex-ante assessment model built around three dimensions — change dynamics (40%), human and organisational capital (35%) and structural context (25%) together with twelve managerial propositions linking theoretical foundations to empirical findings. These contributions provide public decision-makers with an operational framework for calibrating their management practices from the project design stage.

Keywords: project complexity; project management; public sector; digital projects; complex adaptive systems; mixed methods; Morocco.

Abstract

This exploratory study lies at the intersection of education sciences and occupational health. It aims to describe burnout levels among public secondary school physical education (PE) teachers in Morocco and to examine the associations between burnout and six perceived occupational constraints: lack of equipment, difficult weather conditions, required physical effort, demanding work schedule, feelings of professional isolation, and low recognition from the administration. An online questionnaire, including a fourteen-item adaptation of the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (personal, work-related, and student-related burnout), was completed by 143 teachers recruited through convenience sampling. The subscales showed satisfactory internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha from .78 to .79). Observed burnout levels were low to moderate (overall score: M = 2.42 out of 5), with no significant differences according to gender, age, seniority, or type of school. At the bivariate level, all six constraints were positively associated with overall burnout (r = .22 to .43, all remaining significant after Holm correction). In multiple regression, the model explained 25.6% of the variance, and only two constraints retained a specific association: demanding work schedule (β = .29) and feelings of professional isolation (β = .19). Responses to an open-ended question converged with these findings, while also highlighting class sizes and material conditions. Interpreted in light of the Job Demands–Resources model, these results suggest that organizational and relational constraints, more than material conditions as such, are central to the association with exhaustion. Given the cross-sectional design and convenience sampling, no causal inference is made. Implications for work schedule planning, the prevention of professional isolation, and teacher training are discussed.

Keywords: burnout; teacher occupational health; working conditions; physical education.
Zakaria BELLAG Kaoutara ELOMARI Abdellah ESSIYEDALI (c) Tous droits réservés African Scientific Journal 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-07-23 2026-07-23 3 37 10.5281/zenodo.21512009 Infrastructure, trade openness, and territorial development in Morocco: A Time Series Analysis (1970–2023) https://africanscientificjournal.com/index.php/AfricanScientificJournal/article/view/2014
Abstract

Infrastructure is widely regarded as a key driver of trade openness, particularly in developing economies where high transport and transaction costs constrain external integration. Global empirical evidence confirms that modern infrastructure reduces trade barriers, improves competitiveness, and facilitates participation in global value chains. Yet the magnitude and durability of this effect often vary across countries. In Morocco, infrastructure has been at the center of development strategies since the 1990s, with large-scale projects such as the Tangier Med port, highway expansion, and high-speed rail, alongside progressive trade liberalization through WTO membership and multiple free trade agreements. Despite these efforts, it remains unclear to what extent infrastructure development has effectively translated into greater trade openness. This study addresses that question by analyzing the relationship between infrastructure investment and Morocco’s trade openness over the period 1970-2023. Using annual data from the World Bank and employing the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach to capture both short- and long-run dynamics. Trade openness is measured as the trade-to- GDP ratio, with gross fixed capital formation (GFCF) as the proxy for infrastructure, and GDP growth and FDI as control variables. The results show that infrastructure investment has a positive and significant effect on trade openness in the short run, but no evidence of a stable long-run relationship is found. These findings partially validate the research hypothesis and suggest that infrastructure alone is insufficient to sustain openness without complementary policies such as trade facilitation, institutional reforms, and regional integration.

Keywords : Trade openness, territorial development, infrastructure, Morocco, ARDL model.

Beyond simply providing financial support, the study takes a closer look at whether the programme is making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people-particularly in terms of improving their employment prospects and equipping them with relevant skills. To achieve this, a descriptive survey research design was adopted. The study drew from a population of 36,980 CCT beneficiaries across Lagos State, from which a sample of 396 respondents was determined using the Taro Yamane formula. These respondents were carefully selected through a stratified random sampling technique to ensure fair representation across the five administrative divisions of the state - IBILE: Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Epe, and Lagos Island. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), while regression analysis was employed to test the study’s hypotheses. The findings provide encouraging insights. The results show that the CCT programme has a statistically significant positive effect on both employment opportunities (F = 66.530, p < 0.001, B = 0.512) and skill acquisition (F = 71.518, p < 0.001, B = 0.517) among unemployed youth in Lagos State. In practical terms, this suggests that the programme is not only offering short-term financial relief but is also contributing, to a meaningful extent, to improving young people’s chances of finding work and developing useful skills. These outcomes are consistent with existing studies which highlight that well-designed and effectively implemented cash transfer programmes can play a vital role in strengthening human capital and promoting economic empowerment. However, the study also recognises that there is still room to deepen and sustain this impact. Considering these findings, the study recommends that the Nigerian government broaden the reach of the CCT programme to include more unemployed youth, while also strengthening its design. Integrating structured job placement initiatives and enhancing vocational and skills training components would help ensure that beneficiaries are better positioned for long-term employment and self-reliance.

Keywords: Cash, Conditional, Employment, Grassroots, Transfer, Unemployment.

Abstract

In the era of public management modernization, Moroccan local authorities are increasingly embracing the digitalization of expenditures as a means of enhancing efficiency, transparency, and traceability. This process seeks to fundamentally reshape local budgetary operations through the integration of digital tools. This research aims to provide a preliminary impact assessment of digitization of local government expenditures on budget management. To examine this phenomenon empirically, a case study was conducted in the municipality of Sidi Allal Bahraoui in 2025, drawing on a survey of fifteen (15) purposively selected officials chosen to capture the diversity of departments involved in the local government spending process. The findings indicate concrete insight into the tangible effects of digitalization on public spending circuits, while also shedding light on the human and technical challenges that continue to hinder its full realization. Specifically, 32% and 21% of respondents highlighted respectively a significant reduction in processing times and a decrease in costs, while 26% pointed to improved budgetary monitoring. By contrast, 65% of responses identified the persistence of dual processing, the continued reliance on both paper-based and digital formats, as one of the principal obstacles to this transition. Research shows that these observed benefits stem less from complete digitization than from an enduring hybridization of digital procedures and paper-based formats. Finally, several avenues for strengthening the reform are proposed to foster better adoption by local stakeholders.

Keywords: Digitalization, public expenditure, local government, municipal budget, Sidi Allal Bahraoui.

Against this backdrop, the question of how competitive intelligence translates into measurable financial performance represents a central theoretical and managerial challenge. While a strong empirical consensus attests to a positive but indirect relationship between these two constructs, no integrated model has, to date, been identified that simultaneously articulates the mediation mechanisms at work in the specific context of Moroccan SMEs. This research seeks to address that gap by identifying the organisational mechanisms through which competitive intelligence contributes to enhancing the financial performance of Moroccan SMEs. Methodologically, this study is based on a narrative literature review of works published between 2018 and 2026, complemented by foundational theories (Resource-Based View, dynamic capabilities theory, absorptive capacity framework). The corpus mobilised comprises 38 academic references. The majority of these are peer-reviewed articles published in journals indexed in Scopus and/or Web of Science, selected according to their direct relevance to the constructs of competitive intelligence, absorptive capacity, competitive advantage, and financial performance. This core is complemented by a smaller set of references drawn from regional and francophone journals, institutional reports, and foundational monographs, included specifically to capture studies conducted in emerging and Moroccan contexts, where empirical and theoretical coverage in internationally indexed databases remains comparatively limited. The present study proposes an integrated conceptual model of sequential double mediation. The analysis leads to a model in which this relationship operates first through absorptive capacity, which transforms strategic information into assimilated organisational knowledge, and then through competitive advantage, which converts that knowledge into a market position generating financial performance. Three research propositions structure this model, jointly mobilising dynamic capabilities theory, the absorptive capacity framework, and the Resource-Based View. From a managerial standpoint, the insights drawn from this review suggest that investments in competitive intelligence yield durable financial effects only when accompanied by the development of absorptive capacity and the valorisation of that knowledge into defensible competitive advantages. The main contribution of this research is the proposal of an integrated sequential double-mediation model, in which absorptive capacity and competitive advantage jointly explain how competitive intelligence translates into improved financial performance for Moroccan SMEs. The next step will involve empirically testing the model on a sample of Moroccan SMEs through structural equation modelling, in order to examine the proposed propositions and assess potential moderating effects.

Keywords

Competitive intelligence · Absorptive capacity · Competitive advantage · Financial performance · Moroccan SMEs · Narrative review

Abstract

Public enterprises in the Democratic Republic of the Congo operate in an environment characterized by institutional reforms, increasing performance requirements, and persistent social tensions. In this context, social stability has become a critical determinant of organizational sustainability, effective governance, and public service continuity. However, existing studies on the strategic management of social relations, stakeholder mapping, and social stability remain largely fragmented, offering no integrated conceptual framework that explains the interactions among these three constructs. This article addresses this gap by proposing an integrative conceptual model tailored to Congolese public enterprises. The study is based on an integrative literature review drawing upon scholarly books, peer-reviewed journal articles, institutional reports, and legal documents published between 1984 and 2025. The analysis demonstrates that the strategic management of social relations enhances social stability when supported by systematic stakeholder mapping, which facilitates stakeholder identification, expectation management, and conflict prevention. Furthermore, social regulation theory and the Ubuntu philosophy provide complementary perspectives for understanding coordination, cooperation, and collective rule-making within African public organizations. The main contribution of this research lies in the development of an original conceptual framework that integrates these complementary dimensions. The proposed model offers a solid foundation for future empirical research while providing managers of public enterprises with an analytical framework to strengthen social governance, promote constructive social dialogue, and foster sustainable social stability.

Keywords: Strategic management of social relations; stakeholder mapping; social stability; social governance; public enterprises; Ubuntu; Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Abstract

This study on traditional informal practices of animal healthcare using medicinal plants was conducted in Kinshasa City Province (Democratic Republic of Congo), in the vicinity of the University of Kinshasa, with nine participants: three livestock Informal sector farmers , two herbalists (including one affiliated with the University of Kinshasa herbarium), two community leaders, and two traders/producers of herbal products. Grounded in a positivist epistemology and a hypothetico-deductive approach, the research adopts a quantitative cross-sectional design and proposes a conceptual model comprising five latent constructs, 24 measurement items, and five hypotheses. Primary data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to a sample of 342 microfinance beneficiaries selected using a stratified random sampling procedure. The data were analyzed in two stages: an exploratory analysis using SPSS v.26, including reliability and factor analyses, followed by Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling using SmartPLS 4.0 with 5,000 bootstrap resamples. The results support all five hypotheses and show that microfinance service quality has the strongest direct effect on socio-economic performance (β = 0.334; p < 0.001), followed by microfinance access (β = 0.298; p < 0.001) and training and support (β = 0.287; p < 0.001). Socio-economic performance significantly influences sustainable development practices (β = 0.456; p < 0.001) and mediates the relationship between microfinance services and sustainable development outcomes. The study concludes that access to finance alone is insufficient to generate sustainable development outcomes unless it is accompanied by high-quality services, training, and improvements in beneficiaries’ socio-economic capabilities. These findings provide theoretical contributions to the microfinance–development literature and practical implications for microfinance institutions and policymakers.

Keywords: Microfinance, Sustainable development, PLS-SEM, SmartPLS, Socio-economic performance, Financial inclusion, Conceptual framework, Emerging economies

Mohamed ESSABIR Abdellatif KOUKKOUS (c) Tous droits réservés African Scientific Journal 2026 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2026-07-23 2026-07-23 3 37 584 584 10.5281/zenodo.21514174
